Materials with a good properties profile and which are suitable for die casting dies are:
Uddeholm Dievar A premium Cr-Mo-V-alloyed hot work die steel with good high temperature strength and excellent hardenability, toughness and ductility. Suitable for medium to big dies in aluminum die casting. It meets and exceeds the requirements of NADCA 207-2006, Grade C.
Uddeholm Orvar Superior A premium Cr-Mo-V-alloyed hot work die steel (Premium H13) with good resistance to thermal fatigue. The steel is produced by a special melting and refining technique and meets the requirements of NADCA 207-2003, Superior Level, and NADCA 207-2006, Grade B.
Uddeholm QRO 90 Supreme A premium hot work die steel with high hot yield strength and good temper resistance. Especially suited for die casting of small inserts and cores in aluminum die casting where heat checking is the major issue, and ductility is not a major issue.
Bohler W302 Superior This remelted H13 is produced via special melting, refining and forging techniques to possess excellent toughness, making it suitable for aluminum die casting in dimensions 18 inches and greater in thickness. Use this where the maximum properties in big block H13 are demanded. This material meets the requirements of NADCA 207-2003, Superior Level, and NADCA 207-2006, Grade B.
Bohler W400 VMR Using Vacuum Arc Remelting Technology along with chemistry modifications to an H11 type alloy, this grade has excellent toughness and very good mechanical property uniformity. Meeting the highest of toughness standards per NADCA 207-2006, Grade E, this grade is designed to be used for cavities and cores where cracking is the major issue.
